Planning on building a house, is one of the biggest steps/ investments in a persons live, and it is supposed to present their personality. Knowing that is is cruchial to choose a good home designer or a builder that has his own design service.

Usually people start with buying a lot or acreage. After that, they look for a house designer or a builder that has a collection of floor plan to choose from. Let's go with the assumption that our customer wants a custom home design from a professional. There are different thing to look for as following.

Kitchen floor plans need to take into account where the cabinets, refrigerator, counters and the oven will be located as this can affect how much time you end up spending in the kitchen. If the various items you need to get or use are at the other end of the kitchen, you're going to be spending a lot of time walking back and forth to gather what you need.
One of the most common plans are L-shaped kitchen plans. With the L-shaped kitchen you usually get a good amount of bench space for preparing and serving out meals. It still accommodates the work triangle with two of the three major appliances placed against the same wall and the other one on an adjoining wall.

Other popular kitchen floor plans are the U-shaped plans where each major appliance is placed on a different wall which creating the work triangle. This still gives you a good amount of countertop space which usually has plenty of storage cabinets underneath.
Another popular item to consider as part of your kitchen floor plans is the use of a kitchen island which gives you plenty of counter space for preparing and serving meals, with the option of a sink placed in it. Or if you prefer, you can get islands with a butchers block put in for cutting up and preparing food.

Once all this information is collected, the real design work can begin. With different floor plan options, whether you want a split level design, a bungalow or a two story home and exterior designs where there is a tremendous amount of different stiles out there.
